Once children have had many experiences using the rekenrek to explore number relationships and have worked with the rekenrek as a model for thinking, utilize our Rekenrek Cards to develop fluency.

These Rekenrek Cards are a digital download. There are 120 images of 20 bead rekenreks in the 123-page PDF, which also contains a page of Directions and a page of helpful Background Information. You can project the Rekenrek Cards or print on cardstock. Show students a Rekenrek Card for 2-3 seconds. Then ask students: “How many beads did you see on the top row? How many beads did you see on the bottom row? How many beads were there altogether?”
