[Co]lab 2025

The [Co]Lab is a unique professional learning experience for K-8 math educators. The uniqueness of this professional learning experience comes with its emphasis on the participants’ math learning. In other words, the [Co]lab is concerned with participants increasing their conceptual understanding of mathematics, thereby increasing their confidence as mathematicians. During this 3-day workshop, participants are fully immersed in an innovative, practice-based math learning paradigm that holds mathematics as an academic discipline rather than a mere school subject matter. Participants engage with mathematics in ways that challenge them to collaborate as members of a knowledge-building community. Through their collaboration, participants also enhance their abilities to think critically and creatively as well as practice clearly conveying their thinking. Not only do participants grow as math learners themselves from their [Co]Lab experience, they are inspired to imagine new ways of engaging their students in more authentic math learning experiences.

Who should participate?

The [Co]lab is designed for math teachers, coaches, specialists, and school leaders that are interested in professional development opportunities that are content focused, highly collaborative, and continue to enhance participants' learning skills.

The math content that we focus on in the [Co]lab falls in the range of kindergarten through Algebra, though we welcome participants in grade levels beyond Algebra, as we have had teachers find that the content and pedagogy can be transferred to their teaching situations.

The Number Lab’s professional development is unlike any other PD I have attended. You don’t just leave with extra activity ideas, you leave with a transformed way of thinking about math. I highly recommend The Number Lab for any teachers who are interested in expanding the ways in which they think and talk about math conceptually with colleagues, but even more importantly with their students.
